Fascination about the sea

Children have always been fascinated by animals; not only those animals roaming the jungle or flying in the sky but also those inhabiting the deep blue ocean. The mysteries of the deep blue capture children’s imaginations who often dream of underwater cities, sunken pirate ships full of treasure, or becoming submarine captains or mermaids. Also, the sea has its own set of rules that children want to learn about! Animals living in the sea move differently to the rest living on dry land! The way a school of dolphins move together, or the way penguins are expert swimmers diving for over 20 minutes in the sea is great fun for kids to learn about. That’s the reason so many Disney adventure and animation films about fish, dolphins, and penguins are so popular with children!

As parents, apart from the obvious fun factor, we can often detect the mystery and power oceans exert on our children. We can see that they’re eager to learn about dolphins, whales, penguins, sea turtles and how these creatures live in their natural habitats. It’s as if children know that we as humans share a special connection with the sea.

The sea and Greek heritage

Life under the sea at Ellinopoula.com with My Underwater Mission. Apart from being parents, as Greeks our heritage and destinies have always been connected to the sea. As one of the most ancient sea-faring civilizations on Earth, Greece and her children will always have a special connection with the oceans. That blue part of our planet upon which our ancestors in antiquity set out to spread Greek civilization throughout the known world, and the part of our planet which to this day, our compatriots hold the largest merchant fleet in the world.

“My Animal Friends: Underwater Mission” is a great, entertaining series for children to learn Greek while learning about the largest part of the planet, the big blue. The series shows children how different species live below the surface of the sea; how they have their own habitats, how they learn, and how they defend themselves in moments of danger; lessons all children will relate to.

The spirit of exploration

Combining animation with spectacular, real underwater footage, “My Animal Friends: Underwater Mission” follows the stunning explorations of a very smart young girl named Sara and her curious younger brother Maxi. Sara is an expert in biology and zoology, and Maxi is a physics and engineering expert who pilots Emma, the Plexiglas dome covered sea turtle who serves as their submarine. Maxi also handles Seapad, their friendly onboard computer who is always there to give them both all the information needed (an important lesson for children to understand how computers can assist them not only in having fun but also in learning about science and the world.)

Most of all, children will enjoy watching Maxi, Emma, and Seapad as they get to explore and encounter underwater volcanoes, giant underwater creatures, coral reefs and many other spectacular wonders of the sea.

“My Animal Friends: Underwater Mission” doesn’t only teach children about the sea and it’s splendor in Greek, but it also introduces children to a major part of their heritage, as is evident with the color blue on the Greek flag. Click here to watch a free episode.
