One of the biggest challenges Greek language teachers face is keeping their students motivated - especially when the Greek language syllabus is based on traditional methods. Gamification offers a fun alternative: it turns learning into a game. Instead of just studying, kids learning Greek earn points for each activity they complete. This makes learning Greek more engaging and enjoyable, boosting kids’ motivation and making the whole process of learning Greek feel less like work and more like fun, particularly with features like achievement badges that mark progress.
How our Achievement Badges work
Our achievement badges are a built-in system for kids to earn badges by completing specific tasks or challenges. To unlock a badge, kids go to the platform’s section labeled “My Badges” and click on the badge that interests them. For example, they can earn the “Athena’s Shield” badge by exploring the “Trip to Delphi” theme collection that features videos, games, quizzes, and other activities. Once they have explored the theme collection, the badge will be unlocked, and they can choose to proudly display it next to their avatar or download and print it out!
How to use Achievement Badges in the Classroom
Achievement Badges are an easy way for Greek language teachers to boost excitement in the classroom. They can be incorporated into any existing Greek language syllabus and lessons! Here are a few ideas of how to use the “Athena’s Shield” badge in a Greek school’s classroom:
- The Countdown
For this game, it’s all students against the clock! They have a week to unlock the “Athena’s Shield” badge and the winners can print out their Achievement Badge with their name and display it on the classroom achievements board!
- Classroom Champion
Students will explore the collection at home between classes. Then the teacher announces the winners in class!
- Class vs Class
Teachers can organize a competition between 2 or more classes. The class with the most students who manage to unlock the Athena’s Shield badge in a week, wins.
- Semester Champion Student
The student collecting the most badges in a semester, wins. You can display the students’ name on the classroom’s achievement board! It’s a simple way to boost healthy competition and motivate kids to learn Greek in class.
- Semester Champion Class
The class that unlocks the most badges in a semester wins a prize! This is a good way to foster collaboration between students because they have to help and motivate one another to unlock badges for their class to beat the other classes and become Semester Class Champion
Remember: These are just a few ideas teachers can use in class. We create a new unique badge every month corresponding to different learning material. Activities can be tailored to suit students’ interests and learning styles!
