This collection includes 6 videos of children’s Christmas songs including the Kalanda (Κάλαντα) and videos about our Greek Christmas traditions. The videos are featured on the top three rows. Also, we have a free “Write a letter to Santa” printable which you can download here. How does it work? Well, it’s the time of year kids are looking forward to Santa so now would be a good time to “impress Santa” with a letter addressed to him written in Greek! The activity aims to incorporate Greek into the fun of anticipating Santa by writing a letter to him. First, download the letter to Santa template here and print it out. It’s already addressed to Santa at the Elves’ Workshop at the North Pole.

The first field to fill in is the child’s name in Greek and to the left, he or she needs to draw their face for Santa to “recognize” them. Notice the box with a red tick in it to certify that the child was “the best child this year”. Next to it at “20…” fill in the year (2020) and then the child has to list some of the good deeds he or she did in 2020. Write as many words as you can in Greek or combine English and Greek. For example, for “I studied hard and got an A+ in math” the child could write “Μαθηματικά Α+.” Don’t worry about getting it completely correct – “Santa will know.”

The next section below (Τι θέλω να μου φέρεις φέτος) is where the excitement peaks! Here kids list what they’d like Santa to bring them this year. Note that by this stage into the letter Santa will expect all items to be written in Greek! Use the Ellinopoula platform, Google, or a Greek textbook to find the names and descriptions of the items requested from Santa. To the right are three boxes (Love, Happiness, and Peace) for you to tick as a wish for all the world! At this stage, try to say each in Greek “Αγάπη (Agapi), Χαρά (Hara), Ειρήνη (Irini).”

Finally, don’t forget – your child needs to sign the letter in Greek.

We hope you’ll enjoy the activity and remember - you can share the link with friends and relatives who would like to have fun with the “Write a letter to Santa” activity.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a fun time learning Greek!
