Another Bright Year for Greeks and Hellenism - “Η αρετή των Ελλήνων – αιέν αριστεύειν”

As 2017 comes to an end, we would like to take a moment to honor all the Greeks who kept the torch of Hellenism burning brightly all over the world throughout the year.

The Greek men and women (and their “ellinopoula” ☺ ) who stood out and led the way with their ethos, imagination, aspirations, and achievements; the Greeks who excel in business, academia, arts, science, sports, and entrepreneurship from Los Angeles to Athens and from London to Melbourne who are too many to mention in this small space.

To all the Greeks who continue to spread Hellenism; not in the often internationally accepted definition of some sort of study and imitation of the ways of Ancient Greece, but rather the Greek spirit of “αιέν ἀριστεύειν” /“Ever to Excel” which inspired the Roman world and later laid the foundations of modern western civilization.

It is the Greek spirit to self-improve through education, knowledge, and continuous hard work which accounts for Greeks flourishing throughout the ages and the modern world, and is especially apparent in times of harsh circumstances and turmoil.

Even to this day, if we were to account for all the Greeks we know, relatives, friends, and acquaintances, whether Diaspora Greeks or those in Greece, it’s hard to find any who don’t value and prioritize knowledge, education, and hard work as the only way to truly excel in life.

It is this virtue - or “Areti” - of Hellenism which guides us all to gaze upon 2018 full of optimism and strength.
